Using Suomi.fi e-Authorizations

The Authorization Service uses the Suomi.fi service for user authentication. In addition to personal authentication, Suomi.fi e-Authorizations enable users to act on behalf of another person or organization (business customer) in the Datahub Authorization Service. When users authenticate, Datahub services verify the user’s access rights using Suomi.fi e-Authorizations.

In Suomi.fi e-Authorizations, private persons, companies, associations and other organizations can also authorize a person, company, association or other organization to act on their behalf. The authorization is an electronic power of attorney recorded in the Suomi.fi e-Authorizations register. Suomi.fi e-Authorizations automatically verify rights against the Trade Register, Business Information System, Associations Register and authorization register (of authorizations granted on Suomi.fi e-Authorizations).

It is important to distinguish between Suomi.fi e-Authorizations and authorizations granted to Datahub. A Suomi.fi e-Authorization only grants the right to act on behalf of the end customer who owns the data in services provided by Datahub (end-customer portal/Oma Datahub and the Datahub Authorization Service). After that, the party that has been granted the right to act can log onto the Authorization Service and grant, as a user, Datahub authorizations to Datahub parties. Only after the creation of this Datahub authorization can a party retrieve/receive data belonging to the authorizing end customer in Datahub.

Parties can use Suomi.fi e-Authorizations in their own operations, for example, as follows:

  • A business customer with the right pursuant to base registries to act on behalf of the company can grant another person within the company the authority to log onto the Datahub end-customer portal in the company’s name. For example, the chair of the board of a housing company grants an authorization to a resident/another board member.

  • A business customer may grant a customer’s service provider (an organization that is a Datahub party) authorization to act on its behalf. With this authorization, the customer’s service provider can grant an employee a right of representation, allowing the employee to act on the customer’s behalf in services.

  • A residential customer authorizes his relative to act on his behalf in the Authorization Service and to create authorizations for service providers.

For more information on granting authorizations, please see the Suomi.fi e-Authorizations instructions under “Acting on behalf of an organization”. You can grant or request Suomi.fi e-Authorizations on the Suomi.fi e-Authorizations pages under “Grant and request authorizations”. The mandate theme used by the Datahub Authorization Service is at present “Viewing the details of electricity agreements”.

In spring 2026, a new, more specific mandate theme will be used, “Viewing and administering details of electricity agreements”, replacing the current mandate theme. In future, new Suomi.fi e-Authorizations will be granted with this new mandate theme, but Datahub services (end-customer portal and the Authorization Service) will be accessible with either mandate theme.
